Building the 1.2 metre sculpture, from digital to physical.
Created as a central feature for Darihan's Dreaming in Purrspective exhibition, Long Cat is a 1.2 metre tall physical sculpture that brought Darihan's whimsical character to life.
Taking on the challenge of creating a giant 3D printed version of Long Cat, this was my first big fabrication project, taking my first steps outside a digital environment and figuring out how to bring this sculpture to life in time for the exhibition.
Assembled from over 60 individual 3D printed sections, the figure underwent months of iteration. Learning entirely new skills like segmenting a model into smaller parts for printing and creating joints for assembly of the final piece.
Fabrication practices such as filling, sanding and hand painting were also a new area for me to delve and learnt a lot in this section of the built.
